The purpose of this Visual Aid for the Classroom (VAC) was to explore the creative potential of cardboard as a 3D material that can be translated into the classroom.

Using ‘The Tool Board’ as a theme, I made a marking gauge. The initial research was supported with reference to artists such as Michael Craig Martin and Jim Dine. The objective was to reconstruct the source object using a variety of cardboard material. During this process I created a series of drawings to support this project. The finished form was sensitive to 3D form, scale, proportion, surface texture, movement and stability. Consideration was also given to the following artists during the construction stage; Claes Oldenburg, Mark Langan and Chris Gilmore.
